Access, easily. If a digger can reach the wall line the job is straightforward. If everything has to come down a set of steps in a wheelbarrow, labour climbs sharply. On the hill suburbs that is the norm rather than the exception, and it is why two identical walls in Waterloo and Maungaraki can price very differently.
After that comes ground conditions, how far spoil has to travel, whether we are working around services, and how many corners and steps there are. A straight 20m run prices far better per metre than four short walls at different angles.
